Mair’s Gallery

As stated earlier this page has dual purpose.

The prime one is to give exposure to my wife’s pictures: this is not for commercial gain as none of the pictures displayed are for sale: it is hoped that other artists using the same medium will contact us.

The second purpose is to provide a haven for those who find the rest of the Site confusing, and require time to collect their thoughts.

Should there be sufficient interest in the pictures displayed we will consider opening a separate website in which a greater number of pictures will be displayed; with some available for sale.

Oil on canvas. 16ins x 12ins.

Whimsy is one of four of a cross breed litter delivered by our escaped, pedigree, lilac-point, Siamese queen intent upon a passionate dalliance with two competing non-pedigree tomcats.

Whimsy is a poser, she has an unusual mixture of both dominant and diluted black and red genes, with elements of unbalance in the coat pattern: this picture captures her ‘canny’ expression; it also represents a marked ‘breakthrough’ in technique showing some influence from the ‘Dutch’ school.

It is retained in the Artist’s Collection.

Oil on Canvas. 16ins x 12ins.

Mair, the Artist, used to have a passion for collecting Achieves plants: at one time she had between 90-100 different varieties. The acquisition of Siamese cats, and a return to Oil Painting, brought an end to desire to increase the plant collection: she is now content with looking after the diminishing numbers.

This one  incidentally was grown from seed and thus is not an acknowledged variety.

The intention of the picture was to apply the technique used in the Whimsy Picture to capture the different textures and composition.

Oil on Canvas. 27ins x 20ins.

This Seascape was painted more than 25 years ago. At that time her main subjects were Seascapes and Landscapes and this picture is one of a series representing different times of the day; in this case it was intended to be moonlight.

Mair has returned recently to the painting of Seascapes: these are essentially imagination - although biased by the numerous holidays passed in Cornwall in the 60’s and 70’s - she will have to spend time by the seashore if she is to recapture the integrity of her former past work. Nonetheless her changed technique is also reflected in her current seascapes.

All images exhibited on this Web Site remain in the Copyright of the artist, Mair Hitchings: note pictures painted in the last 10 years are signed Mair Parker Hitchings: this does not resind the copyright.
